It<\/span>‘<\/span>s the era of securing web traffic through encryption. A study estimates that by the end of\u00a0<\/span>2020<\/span>, 75% <\/span>of<\/span>\u00a0all\u00a0<\/span>web traffic\u00a0<\/span>will\u00a0<\/span>be encrypted. Securing web traffic has been the\u00a0<\/span>primary<\/span>\u00a0concern for almost every organization<\/span>. This concern has\u00a0<\/span>made them to adopt to HTTPS for enhanced security<\/span>. But the question is: Is encryption enough to prevent malware attacks? Problems with the traditional ones:<\/span><\/h4>\n

Hackers have found ways to use encrypted traffic to harm the websites which means that even your encrypted traffic\u00a0<\/span>needs an inspection<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Old firewalls\u00a0<\/span>cannot<\/span>\u00a0inspect encrypted traffic<\/span>;<\/span>\u00a0hence<\/span>\u00a0this<\/span>\u00a0leave<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0possibility for an attack. Traditional methods\u00a0<\/span>demand decryption of both<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>inbound and\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>outbound SSL-encrypted traffic before its inspection.\u00a0<\/span>The process of re-encryption and re-encapsulation follows it<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Even though<\/span>\u00a0this process happens in seconds, it still leaves room for\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>attack<\/span>\u00a0in between.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We fill all the gaps:<\/span><\/h4>\n

Many organizations have moved to encrypted web traffic<\/span>, but encryption is still<\/span>\u00a0not\u00a0<\/span>utter<\/span>ly prone to attacks (as mentioned above).\u00a0<\/span>Therefore<\/span>\u00a0this<\/span>\u00a0becomes a burden on\u00a0<\/span>the firewall as\u00a0<\/span>an\u00a0<\/span>SSL-based\u00a0<\/span>attack requires 15 times more resources from the server<\/span>–<\/span>side than the client<\/span>–<\/span>side. Hence, the countermeasures for an SSL-based attack are\u00a0<\/span>critical and need to cope with the organization’s performance requirements<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
